چکیده

We envisage this workshop as a chance for Software Engineering Educators to share their challenges, successes and failures in teaching Software Engineering concepts to First Year (or beginning) students The specifics of the workshop will depend to some extent on the interests of the participants, but as a basis for organisation and discussion we will ask all participants to fill in a questionnaire to be provided in the conference registration kits. We will begin the workshop by sharing the basic results of the questionnaires and then ask participants to share their biggest challenges in teaching Software Engineering to beginners, what they have done that has been successful (and any things they have tried that didn't work), what students have trouble understanding, what topics may not even fit in an introductory course, ... We will then break the group up into interest groups on particular topics (eg. reuse, programming, professionalism, design, testing...) and those groups will brainstorm about one particular issue. The workshop will end with the groups sharing ideas. Our hope is that this workshop will not only be useful in and of itself but will also provide a springboard for participants to find colleagues with similar interests and enthusiasms Proceedings of the 15th Conference on Software Engineering Education and Training (CSEET’02) 1093-0175/02 $17.00 © 2002 IEEE

Global perspectives on legacy systems

The two workshops discussed here were held roughly a year apart, at international conferences meeting in the UK. The first workshop (the seventh in the SEBPC legacy series) was held on 30 August 1999 in Oxford, at the International Conference on Software Maintenance (ICSM), which attracts a mostly technical participation, from software engineering academics and from industrial practitioners and...

Second international workshop on Layout of (Software) Engineering diagrams (LED'08)

Traditionally, diagrams play an important role in many disciplines from electrical engineering (e.g. Karnaugh diagrams), civil and mechanical engineering (construction plans), geography (maps), and so on. In Software Engineering, diagrammatic languages like IDEF, UML or ARIS are commonplace today. With the rise of model driven development and domain specific languages, such languages will be ev...

repeatable experiments in software engineering

Welcome to the special issue of Empirical Software Engineering on repeatable experiments in software engineering. Earlier and shorter versions of the papers presented here first appeared at the PROMISE 2007 workshop in Minneapolis. The PROMISE project has been running for 4 years now and aims to create large libraries of repeatable experiments in software engineering. PROMISE is somewhat differ...
